In Moyes interview after he pretty much admitted he was shit scared of going one down, and said almost quivering ''it could have happened'' just gives it away that our confidence is low and we ain't winning from that position. His relief was very palpable.

Moyes has a habit of winning these types of games, next week will tell us a lot more. With Man City up soon we need a minimum of 3 points from Brighton/Villa imo.

Agree Willtell. Think Moyes has that “confirmation bias” thing going on with his old faithfuls?

Harsh reality is that Imo Cresswell, Antonio, Fabianski, Antonio and even Oggy are yesterdays men and should be moved on asap or squad men only to come on as impact subs or cover for injuries. Oggy maybe the exception as a CB can get away with playing when a bit older especially when flanked by someone like Aguerd.

Suspect Moyes may be in a time loop ? 2 years ago? If Cresswell starts next game we are done for but it’s classic Moyes ?

Norf, totally agree. “One swallow doesn’t make a summer” ( no double entendres please lads ;-) ) as Forest were dreadful. Gave us more room than most. We even got to 49% possession !!!!! Wow !!! For us that’s out of this world. So we must try not to get too carried away but a win is a win, you can only beat what’s in front of you and perhaps the confidence boost psychologically to the players was the best thing of all ?

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
It was just good to see us attack for once and press high.
I liked the simplicity of the first goal. Ings wins the ball and passes the ball out to Bowen. He then runs like the clappers through the yawming chasm between their centre backs and onto a perfect cross (Bowen's weaker foot too).
More of this please.

Agree on Soucek. Simply not quick enough or technically good enough ( passing and control). Runs his nuts off but he’s as slow as me in my 60s. He does win a few headers at set pieces and particularly when defending corners and also if it’s in the air in midfield. But do you keep him in for that if he’s a passenger for 70 mins in most games and unable to contribute to linking the play? Yes if he was getting on the end of things but teams stop him doing that now and again because he’s soooooo slow. Moyes has him in almost a number 10 role now just like he did with Fellani. But Tommy is not Fellani level. Great lad and always 100% but a squad player not first 11 imo.

Fornals or Downes ( move Paqueta forward although he’s better as a number 8). Other option is Benrahma as the number 10 when / if Cornet available ? Antonio wide left also allows Benny to be a number 10 which imo is his best position as he also lacks the pace to go around the outside of most defenders ( albeit he managed it eventually for our 2nd goal ) yesterday. Benrahma was a number 10 at Brentford IIRC?

I have a vague memory that the last time you failed to predict a 4-0, we won 4-0.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
I hope that Moyes saw that Cresswell was poor defensively at LB Alf. Lack of pace is not something that comes back with games at Cresswell’s age. Use when desperate perhaps but with Ogbonna and Cresswell we will be exposed and I can’t imagine Moyes won’t realise that.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread -- Preview

I have only seen them play twice this season in both games against us and tbh if we’d scored 5+ goals in both games they could not of moaned, in the away game we hit the woodwork 3 times had a perfectly good goal disallowed and missed a penalty and they should of had a player sent of with a host of other missed chances, yesterday it could easily of been 6 or 7 and they’ve offered very little going forward in either game.
From their points total they have it seems you are correct but from the two games I’ve watched they are a truly awful team. We definitely won’t get as easier ride as that for the rest of the season no matter who we play.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
I thought Emerson must be injured when I saw Cresswell coming on. I suppose this was Moyes doing what he usually does and reverting to a player that used to be effective at crossing and in the team doing well 14 months ago. His default is always to go to his old cronies. Some may argue it paid off? Hmmm well yes against a side like Forest Cresswell did contribute to getting better quality attacking moves down that side but starting him or giving him more than a cameo role or impact sub role is suicide nowadays. He will be targeted for lack of pace. Emerson? Struggles in a back four as he lacks the defensive instincts positionally imo but he’s a better option than Cresswell now most of the time. Moyes took a risk to appease one of his old guard “Cressy” and got away with it. Fair play. But knowing Moyes he thinks “Cresswell is back” and my first option again. That is asking for trouble imo.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
I disagree Emerson is a better all round option than Cresswell.. He's too slow and may have been better defensively in the past but at least Emerson can get back there.

Forest had no intention to attack so why not play Emerson

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
Brilliant result yesterday and great 2nd half performance

Coufal played well enough in the 1st half but came off apparently with a slight injury to his heel

When Johnson moved to the right and Cresswell came on at LB we looked a lot more of an attacking threat

Both were able to push forward and get crosses in where Coufal seems reluctant to cross and his crosses are generally poor on average

Therein lies the problem and probably the main reason for us having a poor season

Cresswell nearly always puts in great crosses but doesn't have the pace now to get back into position when the move breaks down

We nearly got punished a couple of times yesterday when Forest broke down our left with Cresswell stranded upfield nowhere to be seen. Luckily on one occasion when they looked to have a clear chance to score Ogbonna and Rice managed to save the day

It's been obvious since our last campaign in Europe that we urgently needed a younger LB replacement

Emerson has shown that he isn't good enough defending to play at LB though sound enough at
L wing back

At last we begin to look like the team of 18 months ago, just goes to show what we can do if we play attacking football! Hopefully moyes has learnt his lesson, no reason why we should not play like that for most matches now and even improve on that performance.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
Great to have the three points and brilliant to score four goals.

Before we actually scored it looked like we wouldn't, but what a difference that first goal made, came from a scuffed shot from Bowen but a great finish from Ings.. I desperately wanted us to sign him last season and thought he was awful first half. But then he pops up with two goals.. Just what we've been missing, right place both times.

Opposition were poor though and took off their best player Shelvey.

I thought Rice and Paqueta were very good for us. Still don't see the point of Soucek.

Zouma is who we desperately need back, him and Aguerd will be a good partnership I think.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
Just need to keep ticking over so when the European games come around we can fully focus on them, as we must have a very good chance of winning that, and then you have Europa League football next season and all the benefits that come with that.

Maybe Brighton next week will tell us if we have turned a corner or not. Need to get Scammaca up to speed and Zouma and Cornet back too.

Don't know about top 10, that might be a bit optimistic. But agree with the hope that this may be a turning point in our season.

Funny thing is that just before kick-off I was going to post that this could be a Ratched. Then dismissed the idea as ridiculous.

i really think and want to believe this is the turning point , i feel like paqueta is ou rmost important player every time he touches the ball i have a feel something will happen if he stays fit and playing we will finish in the top ten

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread -- Preview
Ings had a stinker in the first half but got into those areas where Antonio doesn't. I felt pretty confident that he'd score in the second half.

Paqueta is getting better and better.

Ironic that when Moyes' job was on the line he went for it. I do hope he's learnt from that and won't revert to is negative tactics moving forward.

Oh, and Lingard deserved all the boos he got. Self satisfied Tiktok twat.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread -- Preview
Four goals and hit the post twice, so not much to complain about, Forest were awful though. Moyes was never going defensive in this one despite some on here convincing themselves otherwise.

A long way to go still of course, but wouldn't be surprised if we get something at Brighton. Need to get Zouma back in there.

A bit of trivia - was the first time we have scored 4 goals in the second half for 11 years.
